In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
This morning, after completing my Fajr prayer, I reflected on a profound Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which states:
“Near the Day of Judgement (Yawm al-Qiyamah), time will pass quickly: a year will feel like a month, a month like a week, a week like a day, and a day like an hour.“
This Hadith made me ponder deeply about how this could come to pass and how we might experience it in our lives.
Upon reflecting, I turned my attention to modern technology, such as smartphones, laptops, and computers, which are deeply intertwined with our daily lives. It became apparent how these devices contribute to the phenomenon of time seemingly passing so quickly.
The Impact of Modern Technology:
Today, we often find ourselves engrossed in screens for hours, whether for work, education, entertainment, or social interaction. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and others, alongside online and offline games, captivate our attention to the point that we lose track of time.
For instance:
We start our day using these devices, and before we realize it, the day has turned into night.
In many cases, we even neglect basic necessities like eating or drinking.
More concerningly, many skip or delay prayers due to distractions from these technologies.
Reflection and Responsibility:
This realization underscores the truth of the Hadith, as modern life increasingly reflects the swift passage of time. While technology has brought immense benefits and opportunities, it also presents challenges that require mindfulness and discipline.
As Muslims, it is essential to use time wisely, remembering that it is a blessing from Allah Almighty and that we will be accountable for how we spend it. Setting boundaries for the use of technology, prioritizing prayers, and engaging in productive and meaningful activities can help us manage time more effectively.
Let us strive to balance the use of modern tools with our spiritual obligations, ensuring that we do not let technology distract us from the remembrance of Allah and our duties as His servants.
